“We at Gosford Pre-School would like to say thank you
to the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn and play
the Darkinyung and Guringai people,
We promise to look after the land, the plants, the animals and the people too.”
Gosford Pre-School is a community-based preschool service, adjoining a beautiful bushland reserve, in the quiet residential suburb of East Gosford on the NSW’s Central Coast. Established on Gosford’s waterfront in 1957, this community preschool relocated to its present site in 2003.
Staffed by fully qualified and experienced early childhood educators, Gosford Pre-School boasts a proud tradition and excellent reputation in offering very high quality early learning education and care at an affordable price.
We are partially funded by the NSW Government Department of Education and operate as a community based not-for-profit service. We are licensed to enrol up to 40 children per day. Under the Start Strong Funding, we are committed to the NSW Government's goal to provide 600 hours of priority Pre-School education for children in their year before school.
Garry Purchase is a proud Aboriginal man of Dharawal, Bidjigal and Dhungutti descent living on the Central Coast.
Description of his artwork written by Garry Purchase
"The design is based around a meeting place which represents the centre. There are children gathered in the middle represented by the small 'U' shaped symbols. They are placed around the lighter dotwork representing a campfire which is a place of warmth and learning too.
The larger 'U' symbols around the outside represent the educators and are placed there to represent nurture, protection and that they are giving those children safety, encouragement and care as they learn. There's multiple pathways leading in to the meeting place that are done black and white. This represents both the journey of the people and also the colours of the magpies that also come to gather at this special place.
Ochre colours represent a deep connection to country as these are the colours of the earth. When it's all together it's saying this is a safe place where community gathers and children learn and grow with a respect and connection to the land it stands on , that respect also extends to the animals and plants and the significance of the magpies that are sacred here.
