Children are very capable of learning mathematical concepts, especially through play based learning and interactions with peers and teachers. Specifically, our Numeracy Program encourages children to:
- Develop numeracy skills through play and investigation
- Develop a growing ability to use different strategies to solve problems, for example puzzles, building blocks, games
- Have an understanding that numbers have meaning
- Understand concepts related to measurement, for example length, weight, height
- Use language associated to position – eg. on, under, next to
- Actively join in counting games and songs
- Recognise numbers and count objects
