GOSFORD PRE-SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Gosford Pre-School is a well-established, innovative, high quality community pre-
school, rich in education and experience for children to grow and flourish within. We
are proud to have taught generations of families for over 60 years of operation. We
see every child and their family as unique, valuing the experience, knowledge, and
culture they bring to our pre-school community. Gosford Pre- School proudly
provides an education which is meaningful and purposeful.
CHILDREN
The children are the centre of our program. We recognise and value each child’s
individual interests, strengths, needs and knowledge. Our established warm and
inviting environment, promotes the positive development of each child’s social and
emotional well-being. We value providing an inclusive, engaging, and respectful
environment which guides children’s positive behaviour and encourages them to
take responsibility for their own actions and build an awareness of others around
them.
PROGRAM
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Standard (NQS)
guide our program and practices. The aim of our program is to establish a positive
attitude towards learning by providing a balance of interest-based experiences,
group learning experiences, and school readiness activities to prepare children for
the school environment ahead. Our balanced routine provides familiarity and
predictability for children and aims to develop the skills necessary for lifelong
learning.
We believe that play and learning are intrinsically linked. Our program promotes and
focuses on learning through social interactions, open-ended play, discoveries, hands
on and meaningful experiences, risky and active play, exploring concepts,
imaginative play, and group learning experiences, in an environment that has a
holistic approach. We provide a positive, supportive environment rich in literacy, Key
Word Signing, numeracy, culture, and STEAM experiences.
SUSTAINABILITY & ENVIRONMENT
Our sustainable practices are embedded throughout our daily routine. We instil a
love for nature and believe in teaching children about their environmental footprint.
We provide the children with the necessary tools and knowledge about sustainability
to become actively involved in practices that will positively impact our environment.
We promote an appreciation and respect for nature through intentional teaching and
hands-on learning.
EDUCATORS
We pride ourselves on having high quality, experienced educators who are
passionate about the importance of Early Childhood Education. We believe the early
years are critical to creating successful learners, with educators seeing themselves
as facilitators. Our educators are dedicated to ongoing learning and critical reflection
for continuous improvement of our practices.
Educators aspire to connect with each child, supporting individuals to be engaged in
their learning, and as active participants within an environment that fosters the love
of learning. Educators support children's individual learning styles which allows all
children to reach their full potential.
RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY
Gosford Pre-School acknowledges and respects the uniqueness of each child and
their family, culture, structure, language, beliefs, and customs. Children are treated
with equity and their diverse backgrounds acknowledged by integrating the unique
cultures of our families and the local community.
ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CULTURE
We believe in educating all children about Aboriginal history, pedagogy and culture,
and value our role in creating a positive perspective, appreciation, and
understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and lives. Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander culture is embedded within our program through daily
practices and teachings. Our bush classroom offers a hands-on experience with
nature to explore our land and allows children to connect with country.
FAMILY & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
We recognise, value and respect the importance of fostering relationships with
families and the wider community. By building trusting and collaborative partnerships
with families and community partners, we establish open communication to support
children. We value providing a space where children and their families feel a sense
of belonging.
